50/50: Show your support for our mission!

On April 4th we celebrated 10 years since ConnectSport was launched - and now we are calling on our readers and supporters to lend a hand as we aim to secure the support which will mean we can carry on providing our free services.

Our not-for-profit platform has been showcasing and serving the sport for development sector since 2011, and to make sure we can continue, we have launched the ‘50/50’ initiative to recruit moral support for our mission. This has become necessary due to the unfortunate loss of income during the Covid-19 pandemic.

How it works: If you work for a sport for development organisation and value our work in championing the sector, then please tell us why in no more than 50 words. It only takes a couple of minutes and could be a gamechanger for ConnectSport!

Simply email your pledge* to hello@connectsport.co.uk. The aim is to build a body of evidence of 50 pledges from 50 organisations which will help to secure investment and sustain our important work. Read some of the brilliant pledges of support so far from sport for development organisations.

A word from our founder:

“Just like many other organisations, the Covid-19 pandemic has hit our business hard and it is now being run entirely on a voluntary basis.

“Before the pandemic, ConnectSport had exciting plans for more video content, jobs and events pages, competitions and compelling campaigns to help unite the sector, share best practice and transfer knowledge. More than 400 organisations signed up to our free-to-join directory.

“We had to put those plans on hold due to lack of capacity but in late 2020 we still managed to launch our ‘sport for development journalism’ project in partnership with three Universities, which means we have up-and-coming reporters – including many from diverse backgrounds – writing features and filming videos for ConnectSport as part of their training and development.

“Most importantly, this means we can tell more stories about your amazing work.

“April 6th also marked International Day of Sport for Development and Peace and the 50/50 initiative is a timely reminder that the sport for development sector needs infrastructure if it is to prosper, and maximise sport’s contribution to important social outcomes.

“Thank you for your support, Simon Lansley.”
