Mary's Youth Club

Mary’s Youth Club is open to 10-19 year olds on weekday evenings with trips and activities on Saturdays. Co-Production is at the core of Mary’s. This means young people, staff, volunteers and delivery partners all play a part in supporting each other and our community.

We have a varied programme of activities that sit under four zones: Social Action, Creative Skills, Skills for life and Health & Fitness: Education & employability underpins all our activities and has its own programme zone.

Mary’s is committed to delivering grass roots sporting activities. Encouraging young people to develop a healthy relationship with Health, fitness and wellbeing now and in the future.

During 2018, we delivered over 400 hours of sport, so how did we do this?

Mary’s has an onsite gym, where young people can try activities in a non-judgemental environment, work towards individual targets and group challenges. We have put forward 8 young people to train as Level 2 Fitness instructors, 4 of whom have qualified so far.

Our sports hall provides an opportunity to deliver accessible and inclusive activities. Young people regularly participate in basketball, football, dodgeball, rounders, hockey,  rugby, volleyball, badminton, dance, kickboxing, relay races and classic playground games like bulldog.

Whenever possible we take the opportunity to get outside and be active. This is as simple as walking instead of getting the bus, games in the garden, local adventure playgrounds, walking in Epping Forrest, riding bikes to the Olympic Park and Hampstead Heath, kayaking on the canal and at Lee Valley or opportunities to climb, abseil and complete obstacle courses on residentials.

Mary’s uses sport as a successful engagement tool and runs satellite clubs at three local secondary schools.

We are committed to developing young people’s sporting engagement, several young people volunteer at the satellite sessions & with two young people recently qualified in Level 1 Basketball Coaching. We are also promoting girls and young women to become leaders in sports

We are currently developing a community basketball league with other youth clubs, please get in touch if this or any of our activities are of interest to you.
