Established in 1993, GLL is the largest UK-based charitable social enterprise delivering leisure, health, cultural and community services.

Social enterprises have responsibilities above and beyond those of high street leisure brands. We don’t take a profit and we exist to get more people, more active more often. We do this by removing barriers to participation by offering affordable memberships, concessions and investing in community grassroots sports development. Our GLL Sport Foundation is the largest independent athlete support programme in the UK. In addition we offer small grants to bring communities together and get active through our GLL Community Foundation.

Better is the consumer brand operated by GLL. Through our Better brand we operate over 270 public sport and leisure centres and 130 libraries in partnership with 55 local councils, public agencies and sporting organisations. Our leisure facilities enjoy more than 54 million visitors a year with over 850,000 members. We are the largest provider of school swimming lessons and the also the biggest public libraries operator.
