European Healthy Stadia Network
Using Sports Settings to Improve Public Health

Sports venues large and small provide an excellent delivery setting for engaging fans, staff, and local populations in public health interventions, often delivered in partnership with local statutory provider such as schools, local authorities, health services and transport providers. European Healthy Stadia Network CIC (Healthy Stadia) helps make this happen in both the UK and across Europe.

Working with clubs and their community trusts, governing bodies of sport and academic research institutes, Healthy Stadia develops direct health interventions (eg physical activity programmes), guidance documentation (eg smoke-free stadia), and provides a benchmarking service to clubs and stadium operators, in addition to sharing examples of current good practice from across Europe.

Healthy Stadia is UEFA’s associate partner for health within UEFA’s Football and Social Responsibility (FSR) partnership portfolio for 2017-2021, and has developed health projects for a number of UEFA’s tournaments, including EURO 2016 (smoke-free tournament) and Women’s EURO 2017 (active travel), and will implement a major health programme for EURO 2020.
