The Access to Sports Project

The Access To Sports Project has a 16 year track-record of delivering programmes designed to increase and sustain participation in a wide variety of youth programmes, sports and physical activities especially for disadvantaged people or communities across Islington, Haringey and Hackney by providing:

- Accessible and affordable sports activities for young people in local venues notably housing estates, parks and other open spaces.
- Accredited training for local people enabling them to gain qualifications as sports coaches/leaders and move into employment, work placements and volunteering.
- Providing support and assistance to local sports organisations and voluntary groups (e.g. sports groups or community/voluntary organisations).

The majority of our services are provided free-of-charge or at low cost to participants. Current delivery includes:

- 70+ free and low cost sports weekly sessions and 200+ holiday programmes annually.
- Events competitions and festivals. For instance the Millfields fun day which engages more than 500 children and parents in sports and fun activities.
- Sport teams (10 affiliated teams in various sports) and regular delivery of competitions and events to encourage ongoing participation.
- Organisational Support; we have helped support the emergence of 15+ new groups including Finsbury Park Rugby Club, A2S Football Club, Finsbury Park Sports Partnership.
- Accredited sports leadership and coach education qualifications including Sports Coaching Awards (such as Football Level 1 and 2 awards and Gym Instructor), Leadership, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Youth-Work qualifications.
