The manager of the Sport for Development Coalition has praised contributors to the latest Twitter takeover which was hosted this week by ConnectSport.
Sarah Mortiboys and John Herriman, CEO of Greenhouse Sports, led the question and answer session live online from the charity’s Greenhouse Centre in North Westminster, London on Monday evening.
Around the UK, key organisations such as Access Sport, StreetGames, Sported, Youth Sport Trust and the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust also pitched in and fuelled the debate around the theme of ‘Sport providing a safe place’, especially with regards to the development of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
John responded to five key questions which were published in the week building up to the takeover so that other organisations are able to share and discuss best practice on the evening.
Sarah said: “We’d like to thank John and his team for their support. This was our fourth Twitter takeover, and the response really has been exceptional from the sector; this is a clear demonstration of how powerful Sport for Development can be when we collaborate and present a united voice.
“In November, Street League led the debate on ‘Employability through sport’, and then the Alliance of Sport were our guests for ‘Sport’s role in reducing crime’. January’s monthly theme of ‘Building stronger communities through sport and physical activity’, led by StreetGames, saw more than 100 organisations discuss this important theme.
“Now we are looking forward to welcoming representatives from the sport and physical activity, and community teams, at Mind as we focus on ‘Sport and mental health’ in our next Twitter takeover on March 25.”
The takeovers take place on the last Monday of each month at 8-9pm. Find out more here about how to get involved, and respond to our call for articles on ‘Sport and mental health’ throughout March by contacting hello@connectsport.co.uk.
