Trust offers subsidised mental health training

The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust is offering two different online virtual mental health training courses over the coming months.

Thanks to support from players of People's Postcode Lottery, the Trust is able to offer the courses at 50% discount on the normal price. Both courses are delivered by an athlete working with the Trust, and are accredited by MHFA England.

Becoming Youth Mental Health Aware

This half-day programme raises awareness of young people’s mental health and is designed as an introduction covering some of the common mental health issues affecting young people, plus skills to work effectively with young people and ways to support them.

Become a Youth Mental Health First Aider

This two-day online course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider and gives an in-depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing as well as practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.

Sessions are split over four afternoon sessions from 1-4pm, starting Monday 30th November and finishing on Tuesday 8th December.

Both courses are appropriate for everyone who teaches, works, lives or cares for eight to 18-year-olds, including young people themselves from age of 16 upwards.

All the sessions will be delivered by Olympic swimmer, Adam Whitehead. Adam is an accredited Instructor Member, approved by MHFA England to deliver Adult MHFA and Youth MHFA courses. Adam is a Commonwealth Gold medallist swimmer and has been involved with the Trust for 10 years delivering and in later years designing all of the Trust's youth programmes. Adam knows from experience the issues around poor mental health and completed his Mental Health First Aid Practitioner training in 2019.
