The Mayor of London’s Community Sport Team has re-opened applications to its 'Stronger Communities' fund.
Grants will be available between £2,000 and £10,000 for delivery taking place between November 2020 and February 2021.
Stronger Communities initially launched in July 2019, with 43 projects funded to date, but a decision was taken in March to pause any new applications due to Covid-19. The remaining Stronger Communities funding will support projects that use sport and physical activity to address increased levels of loneliness and social isolation that have spiked during the pandemic due to prolonged lockdown and social distancing measures.
Priority will be given to:
- projects that work with Londoners who have been disproportionately more at risk of loneliness and isolation during the pandemic such as (but not exclusively): deaf and disabled people or those with long-term health conditions; people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities; LGBTQ+ Londoners; parents with young children; people on lower incomes, and those with limited access to digital technology and the internet;
- those that already have strong connections in their communities, and can reach and connect with people at high risk of loneliness and social isolation;
- smaller organisations and individuals, who typically find it hard to access funding.
Kerri Atherton, Project Manager on the Mayor of London’s Community Sport Team, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to re-open applications to our Stronger Communities fund.
“For this final round, we have re-focused our fund priorities in response to the impact of Covid-19 so that our funding can support those Londoners who have been disproportionally impacted by loneliness and isolation over the last few months.
“Through this opportunity, we are looking to support local community sport projects that increase the confidence and support networks of Londoners who need it most.”
Applications will close at 1700 on Friday 25th September. You can find out more about applying to the fund here.
