Sense launches 'Connecting Differently Through Sport'

The national disability charity, Sense, has partnered with UK Coaching to launch a new online learning classroom, as well as a series of workshop dates in June and July 2021.

‘Connecting Differently Through Sport’ aims to improve the confidence and knowledge of those providing activities for people with sensory or complex disabilities. It offers a mixture of theory, learning and practical activities to support a fully inclusive approach to coaching and is accredited by CIMSPA.

The virtual workshop will be delivered alongside face-to-face workshops throughout 2021 and is suitable for sports coaches, instructors, volunteers, teachers, teaching assistants and leisure staff.

It will help learners to:

  • Understand the different disabilities a participant may have, and how these may affect someone taking part in a sport and physical activity session.
  • Learn about the barriers to participation that people with sensory impairments and complex disabilities face, as well as solutions to overcome them.
  • Understand how to communicate with people with sensory impairments and complex disabilities using a range of communication methods.
  • Feel more confident to adopt a sport and physical activity session to make it more accessible to all.
