Savage wants to 'eliminate barriers' through Foundation

Former footballer and TV pundit Robbie Savage has launched his own charitable foundation which aims to provide coaching for under-privileged children.

The Savage Foundation, which will initially be based at Macclesfield Football Club where Savage works as Head of Football, will provide free grassroots activity to boys and girls aged five to 12 - no matter their skill level or financial situation.

The Foundation will also give players the opportunity to attend educational classes and homework clubs as well as play in a new Saturday Community League, which is set to launch later this year. Any player who competes in the league will also be given a complimentary ticket to watch Macclesfield FC in action.

DEDICATED

The former Wales international described the Foundation as “a Community Interest Company that will be dedicated to deliver my passionate belief that all youngsters should be able to access free grassroots football regardless of their background or ability, with the aim that no child should be disadvantaged".

He added: "The Foundation will be committed to facilitating inspirational opportunities for young people to enjoy being physically active in a safe, fun and engaging environment - eliminating barriers to level the playing field.

"My heartfelt desire is for my Foundation to help every child experience the enjoyment and benefits that being active can bring - increase their confidence and promote the importance of both their physical and mental wellbeing."

PROSPECTS

The Savage Foundation is also being supported by the Law Family Charitable Foundation and the plan is to roll the scheme out further across the UK

Andrew Law of the Law Family Charitable Foundation said: “As we finally emerge from the Covid-19 lockdowns, inspiring everyone to re-engage in sport is essential - and this initiative will bring really exciting prospects for so many.”
