Report explains how events can sustain social impact

A report has been published explaining how events can be used to sustain longer-term action and maximise social impact.

Two organisations with extensive experience in sport for development, inFocus Consulting and Spirit of 2012, have come together to create the 'Moment to Movement' report.

If you are involved in the planning and delivery of events – online or in-person – and want to ensure that the impact is wider reaching and longer lasting than just the event and the attendees themselves, then check out the report here.

Spirit of 2012 is the official legacy funder of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which since its foundation in 2013 has been funding community events across the UK and as well as bringing people together to learn, connect and play.

It has partnered with inFocus Consulting to produce a roadmap demonstrating how three organisations – WOW Foundation, Springboard and Jo Cox Foundation – have used events to turn into longer-term action. The research establishes a simple set of principles that make it more likely that single inspirational moments can turn into movements and considers the barriers that might prevent them from happening.

Dr Damian Hatton, Managing Director and Senior Advisor at inFocus Consulting, told ConnectSport: “We are excited to publish the Moment to Movement research, and a free eLearning module that will help you apply the lessons from the report.

“The research has resulted in a simple set of principles that make it more likely that single inspirational ‘moments’ can turn into longer-turn ‘movements’ and considers the barriers that might prevent them from happening.

“All the lessons learned and advice on running events is highly applicable in a sport for development setting and developed with input from a number of sport for development experts and organisations.

“Both Spirit of 2012 and inFocus, the research co-ordinators, have significant experience in the sport for development sector supporting organisations to generate social outcomes through sport.”
