Fulham FC Foundation has launched a new programme called ‘More Than A Game’ aimed at supporting the mental wellbeing of both young people and adults across the community.
The mental wellbeing scheme, which is funded by the Premier League Charitable Fund and the Professional Footballers Association, will see staff across the club’s Foundation trained to spot the signs of people struggling with their mental health and the steps they can take to support.
The Foundation has recruited two new Mental Wellbeing Practitioners who will support staff and participants, delivering initiatives direct to members of the community.
POSITIVE
As part of More Than A Game, the Foundation has also created new mental health football sessions, aimed at providing a positive physical activity for those who have poor mental health. The new project provides not only a positive physical activity for participants, but also an opportunity to discuss issues, work with mental health professionals and also encourages peer support.
The Foundation will be working with local NHS partners and local mental health charities, ensuring people are effectively signposted to reach the support they need.
Laura Everton, Health and Wellbeing Officer at Fulham FC Foundation, said: "We know that Covid-19 has had a severe impact on the mental health of many people. Our work, across the board, is targeted at working with those who need support.
WELLBEING
"We know many of these people, including disabled young people and adults, young people living in deprived areas and socially isolated older adults, are more likely to be affected by ill mental health.
“We believe, with the right expertise and the right partnerships, we can really support people with their mental wellbeing."
