Made By Sport has been unveiled as the official partner of BBC Sports Personality of the Year’s Unsung Hero Award for 2019.
The award, which is supported by BBC Get Inspired, celebrates individuals that give up their own free time to help others take part in grassroots sport. Community sports clubs and charities will also be championed and thanked on the night of BBC Sports Personality of the Year, to be broadcast from Aberdeen on December 15.
Made By Sport is a four-year campaign championing the power of sport to change lives and raising vital funds for organisations that are using sport to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
It is working in collaboration with the Sport for Development Coalition - a movement made up of over 60 charitable organisations and funders with a reach in to thousands of schools, communities, clubs and organisations - to ensure the UK’s most inspiring and deserving volunteers are nominated for the prestigious award.
Chair of Made By Sport, Justin King, said: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with BBC Sports Personality of the Year’s Unsung Hero Award and all that it stands for in promoting the importance of sport and those individuals and organisations that make it possible.
“Made By Sport is committed to championing the vital role that community sport has to play in the lives of young people and SPOTY’s Unsung Hero is an incredible partner to help us shine a light on grassroots heroes making a difference in communities across the UK.”
Carl Doran, Executive Producer for SPOTY 2019, said: “We are pleased to team up with Made By Sport for this year’s Unsung Hero award.
“The award is one of my favourite categories in the show and a fantastic opportunity to champion individuals that give up their own free time to help others take part in grassroots sports – I can’t wait to find out our nominees for 2019.”
