Dallaglio RugbyWorks wins Beyond Sport award

Dallaglio RugbyWorks has been announced as a winner in the prestigious Beyond Sport Global Awards in New York.

The charity, founded by former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio, was one of five organisations from across the world shortlisted for the category entitled ‘Alternative Provision in the Sport for Quality Education’.

The Beyond Sport awards are aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, with this particular category focused on global goal number four – quality education.

Dallaglio RugbyWorks is an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on the values of rugby, which aims to get teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training.

Dallaglio tweeted: “Beyond proud… what fantastic news from New York overnight as @DallaglioRW were announced winners of the Alternative Provision in the Sport for Quality Education Award @BeyondSport @SAP Global Awards!”

Rachel Roxburgh, Chief Executive of the charity, was in New York to receive the award. She said: “We are delighted to receive the Sport for Quality Education Award at the Beyond Sport Global Awards.

“It is truly a fantastic honour and an important recognition of the work our dedicated team has achieved to help change the lives of young people aged between 14 and 17 in Alternative Provision.

“Some of the young people we work with have never had a ‘first chance’ to succeed, but through our intensive skills programme, we aim to provide the skills they need to go on and achieve and ensure they move onto the next stage of life either in education, employment or training.”

RugbyWorks was the only UK-based organisation on a shortlist of 29 entries across seven categories. Visit beyondsport.org for more information.
