Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) will host a football tournament to say ‘thank you’ to local NHS staff for their efforts throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
The six-a-side tournament at the club’s Sparrows Lane training ground will see up to 100 members of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust staff participating free of charge.
Joe Peciuch of the Charlton Upbeats, the CACT Down’s syndrome sports team, will be there to DJ on the night, with other members of the Upbeats attending the event as CACT Ambassadors.
The event is part of a London United initiative to show thanks to local NHS Trusts. London United brings all 14 professional clubs from the capital city together for community projects.
The tournament will be refereed by the Trust's Post-16 Football & Education Academy players, with a one minute’s silence taking place before the event starts to pay tribute to everyone who has lost their lives during the pandemic.
The winning male and female teams will progress to a central NHS tournament held in June, playing against other NHS staff who won tournaments held by the other London clubs.
Carl Krauhaus, CACT’s Head of Early Help & Prevention, said: “Oxleas are a valued partner to us at CACT, and we know how hard they have worked since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, so we’re putting this tournament on as a way of saying thank you.
“We run a number of our mental health programmes in partnership with Oxleas, and I’m so pleased we have such a great working relationship and hope they enjoy the evening.”
