Chelsea Foundation has launched a new programme called 'Check-In with Chelsea' to “support children and families during the current lockdown period”.
The programme works with schools and enables virtual classrooms where schoolchildren get access to activities and challenges themed around curriculum-based subjects and physical activity. This involves Maths and English tasks and daily physical activity diaries to encourage fitness.
It has been launched in response to Covid-19 lockdown regulations, with most children working from home and adapting to remote learning due to the closure of schools.
Each activity is linked to a Chelsea FC men’s or women’s player with pupils able to engage in fun activities and receive encouraging messages. There are also challenges for the whole family to take part in at weekends and complete activities together.
Sam Gaskin-Kemp, Head of Education for the Chelsea Foundation, said: “We are delighted to have launched our new ‘Check-In with Chelsea’ programme which allows us to continue to support children and families during the current lockdown period in school or at home.
“It is really important for us to be able to provide support where we can and continue to work with our communities through this fun and engaging programme.”
The programme is one of numerous activities introduced by the Premier League club in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Others include a partnership with the charity Refuge, aimed at tackling domestic abuse, and support for NHS staff, including meals and accommodation at the club’s Millennium Hotel at Stamford Bridge.
