Sporting Recovery CIC

Sporting Recovery is a not for profit Community Interest Company (CIC), providing a Wellness Programme through sports, exercise and a wellness café, for people experiencing mental distress and those recovering from serious mental illness.

We evolved in 2014 from a successful clinical pilot, funded by the Maudsley Charity, and working in partnership with the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. When the pilot ended, the CIC was established in December 2014 to continue the programme.

Our Peckham based Wellness Programme provides opportunities for social interaction through physical activity and a Wellness Café. We offer a stigma-free and welcoming environment for service users, support staff and adults who are or have had mental distress.

Activities include:

- Individual and team sports
- Gym & non-contact boxing
- Tai Chi, Yoga & Dance classes
- ‘Nudges’ towards healthy eating and lifestyle choices (e.g. smoking, sugar intake)
- Pathway to gain sports coaching qualifications and food hygiene certificates.
