British Universities & Colleges Sport

British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) is the national governing body for Higher Education (HE) sport in the UK, a membership organisation, and a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. Our vision is simple, to create the best university sport experience in the world.

Delivering more than 50 sports to approximately 170 member institutions (now including some FE Colleges), BUCS’ calendar boasts a busy league programme of over 5800 teams competing in approximately 120 championships every year. A number of these events take place at iconic venues all over the UK, from Twickenham, the home of rugby, to the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome in Glasgow.

BUCS also provides high performance British students with the opportunity to compete at global competitions thanks to their international programme.

Part funded by Sport England, BUCS’ development strand is engaged in driving participation in HE sport through key national relationships with landscape bodies, especially NGB’s. A range of professional network and development events are also hosted by BUCS around the country each year to support those who work in the sector.
